Winds of Fortune
“The winds of fortune blow thru my life, they come to me like a thief in the night
They come and go and sometimes they stay oh Winds of Fortune, don’t blow me away…”
David Harley has once again come thru with a brilliant new collection of songs inspired by life’s journey of the soul which we must all embark upon, blown by seemingly random forces of circumstance and chance and navigated thru by the stars of hope and vision to guide us home to the shores of the homeland from whence we began.

The winds of fortune blow thru my life, they come to me like a thief in the night
They come and go and sometimes they stay oh Winds of Fortune, don’t blow me away
I’ve strived to live a life well spent and courted you with a lover’s regret
I put down my money and placed my bet for fortune to come I have paid my respect
Chorus:
Oh, Winds of Fortune don’t blow me away, leave me to fight for another day
I have crossed your oceans and to you I have prayed
Oh, Winds of Fortune please grant me a stay
Verse:
Now is the time for me to come clean and stop my wagering on your schemes
For fortune may come and fortune will leave and we return to that place in between
Where fortune can’t get ahold of you and after this fight, you’ll have nothing to lose
And one thing I’ve learned and I know it’s true, that fortune will have its way with you
Chorus:
Oh, Winds of Fortune don’t blow me away, leave me to fight for another day
I have crossed your oceans and to you I have prayed
Oh, Winds of Fortune please grant me your grace
Verse:
We all must learn to come to peace with having the most or having the least
The more we chase it, the more we must, see that fortune is not our enemy
It’s just the way our lives… must be
Chorus:
Oh, Winds of Fortune don’t blow me away, keep me over for another day
You played with me like a cat with its’ prey
Oh, Winds of Fortune don’t lead me astray
Outro Verse:
The Winds of Fortune blow thru my life, they come to me like a thief in the night
They draw me in like a moth to a flame, Oh Winds of fortune, please… don’t blow me away

It’s been a long time since I lost you and all of the changes that you put me thru
Now the table’s turned and the hurt’ens on you but what did you expect from the things that you do?
And every time I turn around it seems like someone’s following me
But I duck inside the alley to hide because I’ve just got to be free
Chorus:
I want to be a survivor and run thru the town with my hair on fire
I’m gonna be a believer and open my eyes to become a seer
Verse:
All of my life I’ve strived to be the kind of a man that the world needs
To learn to give and to receive and find a way to live in harmony
But every time I look around it seems so hard to conceive
That people can be so cold inside they’ll take whatever they please
Chorus:
I want to be a survivor, keep my head and stand up to the liars
I’m gonna come thru the fire, rise from the ashes to fulfill my desires
Instrumental:
Pre-chorus:
And every time I get ahead it seems like someone’s messing with me
But I’m standing tall because after all, I’ve just got to be me
Chorus:
I want to be a survivor and run thru the town with my hair on fire
I’m gonna be a believer and open my eyes to become a seer
I want to be a survivor, lie down with the lamb, rise up with the lion
I’m going to come thru the fire and return again to the Land of the Zion

Of all the stars up in the sky, none burned so bright as you and I
Of all the celestial bodies I’ve seen, yours always seemed to shine supreme
And as your gravity pulled me in, my world began to spin
And my life turned upside down, as I circled all around… you
Chorus:
But you knocked me out of orbit and I don’t know why
Now my polarity’s reversed and I’m falling towards the sky
If it wasn’t so damn funny I think I’d have to cry
Because you knocked me out of orbit now I’m falling toward the sky
If what goes up must come down, we’re better off staying on the ground
And if the universe is infinite how come I thought that you were it?
When the big bang blew us out, and sprinkled star dust all about
It’s where all life begun, in the heat of a million suns
Repeat Chorus:
So I’ll take my place up in the night and wink at you as I pass by
From a galaxy so far away in the center of the Milky Way
And if your forcefield draws me in, I’ll go retrograde instead
And I won’t be fooled again, by a supernova end…ing

When I lay here beside you, I can feel you so deep inside me
And when you are gone this memory still haunts me, I long to see you again here by my side
I traveled so far to meet you, across the stormy sea to greet you but then my fate carried me away
But I swear to the stars above you’ll always be my holiday love and that I will return again someday
Though we’re from different worlds somehow we met, In the dark of night its something I can’t forget
On an island of dreams you come to me in my sleep as the ocean it roars and the wind it speaks
I traveled so far to meet you, across the stormy sea to greet you but the four winds carried me away
I swear to the stars above that you’re the one I’m dreaming of and that I will return again someday
I dream of when we meet again on a deserted beach I call your name, Judy Anne, my muse softly sings
With an African bandana in your hair and our spirits can dance anew in the evening air
I traveled so far to meet you, across the stormy sea to greet you then my fate carried me away
But I swear to the stars above, you’re the one I’m dreaming of and that I will return again someday
Yes I swear to the stars above you’ll always be my holiday love
And that I will return again someday, yes I will return again…
Someday, someday, someday.
Words and Music by David Harley
You know you are the one I’m dreaming of, you make me believe in a Kingdom Come
But like an acrobat on this wire of love, I’m falling off and I can’t get up…
Verse:
Before I met you, I was doing alright, though I needed someone on a Saturday night
I had plans of making it on my own, but since I met you, I’m feeling alone
Chorus:
And there’s a thin line between love and hate, it’s such a shame ‘cause it could be so great
And it’s sure to bring you to your knees, sometimes in human nature, it’s so hard to believe
Verse:
You say you want to just be friends, if we went out it would be the end
But we can’t go forward and we can’t go back, now we’re caught up in the same old trap
Because friends are free to do what they please, but lovers have responsibilities
If I could find a way, I’d just let it be because we’re neither now and it’s killing me
Chorus:
And there’s a thin line between love and hate, its sure to cause your heart to ache
And it fills us up with jealousy; when we love the one we hate to need
Instrumental:
Verse:
Why don’t you send me your picture or write me a song?
I need to put these feelings where they belong, in a box where they won’t do no harm
And get on with my life, go back to my farm
Because if people can’t find a way to be, together without causing misery
I’d rather go it alone and keep my dignity than to wind up a player in this tragedy
Chorus:
And there’s a thin line between love and hate and it’s such a shame ‘cause it could be so great
And it’s sure to bring us to our knees, sometimes in human nature, it’s so hard to believe
When you love the one that you hate to need
There’s a thin line between love and hate…

All roads lead somewhere, the roads that we’ve seen, some go in circles and some in between
But my favorite road that I ever have know is the one that leads me home
The key to the highway can open the door to the long dusty road that you’ve traveled before
The stars they will guide you and point out the way to the place you can go at the end of the day
Chorus:
Home where the heart is, the place where I know there is a shelter from the rain and the cold
A place I can rest and reflect on what was shown, until once again I’ll be hitting the road
Verse:
It’s rocky and winding, narrow and steep, gentle and rolling, unfurls at our feet
Over high mountain passes all covered in snow, to the rivers that run thru the valleys below
Chorus:
Home where the heart is and the soul finds repose, we can warm by the fire and lay down our load
And dream for awhile as stories are told, about the day’s journeys and life on the road
Last Verse:
And when it’s all over we can say we have seen the world all around us and followed our dreams
Where they will lead us, it’s there we must go, to the place that awaits at the end of the road
And my favorite road that I ever have known… is the one that leads me home, leads me home

Intro/Chorus:
If it don’t mean nothing, why does it hurt, why does it hurt, why does it hurt? If it don’t mean nothing, why does it hurt, why does it hurt, why does it hurt?
Verse:
What is going on is there a lesson to be learned, is there some meaning to this all or did I just get burned?
If it wasn’t meant to be, it must be just as well but if it’s all so simple, then why do I feel like hell?
And If it weren’t for the birds and bees, we wouldn’t exist, but I wonder if they fly around all day feeling like this?
Chorus:
If it don’t mean nothing, why does it hurt, why does it hurt, why does it hurt
If it don’t mean nothing, why does it hurt, why does it hurt, why does it hurt?
Bridge:
You can try to analyze it, you can turn it all around but one thing you can’t escape from, sometimes love will bring you down
Verse:
It’s so easy for a romance to turn into a farce and the thread that binds it can unwind and leave you on your arse
It’s best to just forget it, try and leave it in the past, it must not have been a real love, since it didn’t last
You should just accept it there’s no reason to feel sad, don’t let those doubts creep in your head, next time won’t be so bad
Chorus:
So, if it don’t mean nothing, why does it hurt, why does it hurt, why does it hurt?
If it don’t mean nothing, why does it hurt, why does it hurt, why does it hurt?
Bridge:
You can try to analyze it, you can turn it all around but one thing you can be sure of sometimes love will bring you down
Chorus/Outro:
If it don’t mean nothing, why does it hurt, why does it hurt, why does it hurt?

All I want to do is to spend some time with you
To find out if it’s true, this feeling that I knew
And all I want to say is you decide to stay
That I will find a way to love you everyday
Chorus:
Because time is like a river and its flowing thru our lives
It’s carrying us along and now its making us decide
To choose a course to bring us where we know we must belong
In the love’n shelter of another’s arms
Verse:
And all I want to feel is what I know is real
I’ve tried in vain to deal with what my fate has concealed
The game of life is for a prize we know we can’t deny
To win is what we’re striving for without love our hearts will die
Chorus:
Because time is like a river and its flowing thru our lives
It’s carrying us along and now its making us decide
To choose a course to bring us where we know we must belong
In the love’n shelter of another’s arms
Bridge:
And the road goes on forever and it’s so hard when you’re alone
But if we travel on together then love can guide us home and love can make us whole
First Verse
Chorus/Outro
Words and Music by David Harley
Monkey sitting on a fence, monkey ain’t got no sense
Sitt’en in the sun all day and all he wants to do is play
Monkey don’t know what to say so the words don’t get in the way
Chorus:
The monkeys they chatter like something’s the matter but they know it’s only a game
They eat the banana and make such a clammer until the next one comes their way
Verse:
Monkey climbs up a tree, to see what he can see
But when he gets to the top, he doesn’t know when to stop
And monkey don’ know what to think so he swings to another tree
Bridge:
I love you; don’t you know that I do-oo-oo-oo?
I need you; can’t you feel that it’s true?
Instrumental:
Chorus:
The monkeys they chatter like something’s the matter but they know it’s only a game
They eat the banana and make a big clammer on such a glorious day
Bridge:
I love you; don’t you know that I do-oo-oo-oo?
I need you; can’t you see that it’s true?
Verse Outro:
Monkey sitting on a fence, monkey ain’t got no sense
Playing in the sun all day is all he needs to feel ok
Monkey don’t know what to say so the words don’t get in the way
And the monkey gets carried away ‘cause every day’s a holiday!

If I could walk into the future and leave my past behind, skeletons in my closet, remind me of what I’ve done
But they can’t stand the light of day…if I could walk out in the sun
Chorus:
Little white lies we tell to ourselves now, turn into big ones later on
They keep us from living like we could now and there’s so much living yet to be done
And be a free man, a free man now
Verse:
Passing by the graveyard on my way back home, thought I heard a voice a calling in the pale moon glow
Hiding in the shadows, memories lost so long ago
Chorus:
Little white lies we tell to each other, they turn into big ones later on
Deceive us into believing that we are here all alone
Verse:
I’m gonna wash myself in water to consecrate my soul, the seeds of change are growing and they’re starting to take hold
I’m gonna fight for my freedom from this darkness I have known
Chorus:
Little white lies we tell to ourselves now, they turn into big ones later on
They keep us from living like we could now and there’s so much living yet to be done
(and be a free man, a freeman), I’m gonna leave may past behind and be a free man a free man
I’m gonna walk out in the sun (a free man, a free man), I’ve got to find my peace of mind (and be a free man, a free man)
Because there’s so much to be done (free man, a free man), find a way to go on living (a free man, a free man)
I’m gonna walk out in the sun, a free man, a free man now, a free man, a free man, now…

Through the ages they built it stone by stone, the ancient walls and towers did grow
From the valleys of green on the hills of old, they built this place to keep our souls
Where our heritage began and our history was made, the foundation of civilization was laid
And the secrets of our past were saved and the freedom of our will proclaimed
Chorus:
Now the clanging bells from the churches toll, marking time in a holy tone
On this pilgrimage generations will go to this city they built stone by stone
Verse:
And the human story it has foretold, reaching for that golden throne
Where the dreams we share were born, in our flight to know we aspire to more
Chorus:
Now the clanging bells from the churches drone, marking time in a holy tome
And out legacy generations behold, this city they built so long ago
Bridge:
Stone by stone they built this city to the sky
A monument to stand for all of time
Verse/Outro:
Through the ages they built it stone by stone, the ancient walls and towers did grow
From the valleys of green on the hills of old, they built this place to keep our souls
Yes, they built this city stone by stone…

Blue is the night since I lost my baby
I turn off the light but your memory won’t fade away
Try as I might I just can’t seem to forget you
Blue is the night since you went away
Chorus:
Blue is the night with the moon shining bright
But this darkness is all I can see
I gave you my love and prayed to above
That you would be true to me
Verse:
Was it just a dream or did my heart deceive me?
Because I believed that you had come to stay
And now that you’re gone I just can’t concede it
That I was a fool to think our love would remain
Chorus:
Blue is the night with the moon shining bright
But this darkness is all I can see
I gave you my love and prayed to above
That you would be true to me
Verse:
Blue is the night since I lost my baby
I turn off the light but your memory won’t fade away
Try as I might I just can’t seem to forget you
Blue is the night since you went away
I said blue is the night since you went away

I know what it means to want to be free but feel that you can’t go on
I’ll always remember, I can’t forget, how you struggled to get along
Life can be hard and fall short of our dreams but now that you are gone
I just want you to know how much I miss you
And honor you with a song and honor you with this song
Verse:
For those of us that went before and we had to leave behind
They’ll always be a place in our hearts of a special kind
Life is short but for the living, your memory will survive
I just wanted to say how much I miss you
And honor you with a song and honor you with this song
Bridge:
I’m grateful for the time we spent together and will cherish it in my heart What I learned from you, I won’t forget, even though we had to part
Verse:
There will come a time somewhere in the future we can reconcile
When we will go to meet our maker on the other side
To be released from our trials but for now, we’ll carry on
And sing a song for the life you gave us
And honor you with a song and honor you with this song
I just wanted to sing of the love you gave us
And honor you in a song and honor you with this song

Catch a falling star, wonder who you are
Catch a falling star and wonder who you are, wonder who you are…
Are you going far on a shooting star? Are you going far on a shooting star?
Are you going far? On a shooting star…?
Chorus:
If you look in the sky tonight, you’ll see the stars a burning bright
And wish you may; wish you might, have your wish come true
For a dreamer such as you
Verse:
Wish upon a star and keep it a secret never give it all away
Wish upon a star and don’t tell a soul
Save it for another day and hope it comes your way…
If you wish for love and just want to hold her,
You can find a way
And if you wish for love, you got to tell her, don’t let her slip away,
Go out and seize the day…
Chorus:
If you look in the sky tonight, you’ll see the stars a burning bright
And wish you may; wish you might have your wish come true
For a dreamer such as you
Verse:
Catch a falling star, wonder who you are
Wish upon a falling star and wonder who you are, wonder who you are
Are you going far on a shooting star? Are you going far on a shooting star?
On a shooting star?
